Mission Statement

Rhetoric@Reno is the local graduate student chapter of the Rhetoric Society of America, a professional organization for scholars and students who are interested in the study of rhetoric, the art of effective communication.

Welcome to Rhetoric@Reno

We are a graduate student chapter of the Rhetoric Society of America, a national organization of scholars and teachers in every discipline who are interested in rhetoric. Rhetoric@Reno provides a forum to gather as rhetoricians and welcomes students from all disciplinary backgrounds. The club activities are organized around research, writing, and professionalization. We have a journal club that discusses contemporary scholarship, an agraphia group that writes and workshops together, and an ongoing series of professionalization workshops. We recently hosted Capitalism, Climate, and Public Discourse: The Limits and Possibilities of Rhetorical Intervention, a day-long symposium of in conjunction with Naomi Klein's Forum on Excellence lecture. In the Fall of 2014 we hosted the Western States Rhetoric and Literacy Conference. Each Spring we invite a rhetoric scholar to speak on campus. Recently, we have hosted Susan Jarratt and Casey Boyle. If you have any questions, feel free to contact our faculty advisor, Dr. Catherine Chaput, or our co-presidents, Kat Lambrecht and Blake Watson. Thank you for your interest in our club. We look forward to seeing you at our next event!
